MAH JONG BREAKAWAY 2018

Last year when we were at Exmouth the hotel had recently been sold and the staff were apprehensive about the future. It was therefore pleasing to find that when we arrived this year, the staff had been retained and were excited about the programme of renovation that was taking place. We were welcomed back with enthusiasm and Dave was keen to show us the changes and redecoration that had already been done and the plans for further proposed changes.

The advance party then started unloading the tables and Mah Jong sets from cars and setting them up so that they were all suitably labeled and ready for play. When this had been done we were able to check-in and were ready for a cup of tea and as had become usual cakes, freshly baked that morning, by Jean.

Monday was a bright crisp & cold day so an intrepid few set off to walk the path to Topsham. They stopped at Topsham for some quick refreshment before travelling back to Exmouth by bus. Others stopped in the warm and either played Mah Jong or sat in the lounge playing other games.

All too soon, our annual visit to Exmouth came to an end and it was time to pack up the tables and sets ready to load into cars on the Thursday morning before travelling back to Taunton. We left in the knowledge that when we return next year (Wednesday 6th February) we will find further changes to the hotel - The reception area will have changed and the ladies room will now be on the ground floor.
